The Importance of Maintaining Muscle Mass to Our Health and Longevity

Are you dedicating any of your time to maintaining your muscle mass as you age?
This is really important to not only maintaining our health but also our longevity. It is reported that we can lose up to 40% of our muscle mass between the ages of 20 to 80 and this loss really picks up after age 60.
Maintaining our muscle mass is also closely related to being able to maintain our mobility and potential to live independently. Our muscle mass may also have an impact on our overall health and if we are lacking muscle mass, this can also be associated with other health challenges such as heart disease, diabetes and dementia.
In this Learning Bites session, Susan Williams speaks with Fitness and Performance Coach, Shannon Bond on the importance of maintaining muscle mass as we age and how best we can do this.
