60 Before 60 Project: #53 - Go on a Haunted Walking Tour

While in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia I took a haunted walking tour on Friday the 13th. I discovered life is meant to be lived well without regrets.

Earlier in my 60 Before 60 Project, I had taken a walking tour of Quebec City and discovered how much you can learn about a place from the locals that live there.

While visiting Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, I happened to notice that there was a haunted walking tour and to make it even more enticing, it was being offered on Friday the 13th. I had seen these type of tours before and always wondered what they may be like. Would they be scary? Would I be creeped out? Or would it just be a walk around the town?

Given my curiosity – and the fact that I couldn’t deny the co-incidence that it was in happening on Friday the 13th – we decided to take the tour and find out what it was about.

We met the tour guide at the Town Hall and all carried lanterns for the tour. The town was extremely quiet. It had almost an eerie silence about it. I think I only counted seeing three cars during the whole tour.

As we started out on the tour, we learned about the history of the town, how it was settled and who were the some of the community leaders and their roles.

We then would stop at different places along the route and often learn about the sad history of a location and how and why it was now believed to be haunted. Most of the stories were of great loss and sadness. Whether it was the loss of a loved one or the brutal murder of someone else, the tales were typically of souls that never seemed to have settled because of some significant trauma they suffered during their living years.

It was truly an educational experience that heightened my awareness that over history, people have experienced significant pain and trauma.

What I also found extremely interesting, is that I took pictures over the course of the tour, but when I looked through them, I noticed there was one picture that I didn’t take.

Making me wonder whether this tour was really haunted!
