60 Before 60 Project: #54 - Visit Halifax, Nova Scotia

It’s amazing how large a body of land Canada is.
Canada is the 2nd largest country in the world listed just after Russia and before China. The country is truly beautiful, filled bustling cities, beautiful terrains and spreading between both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Towards the eastern side of the Canada in the province of Nova Scotia. The capital and most populated city is Halifax. Halifax was initially built to service army and navy needs but evolved to becoming one of the largest commercial ports at one time as it had the deepest ice-free habour in the world.
About 48 years ago, I had visited Halifax to compete in a swim meet but haven’t been back to the east coast since. It had been on my list of places to visit and when my son and I discussed places to go, this interested us both so we scheduled and booked our trip.
Halifax has definitely changed since I was last there.
It has truly evolved to being a city of great beauty and culture. The port boardwalk was amazing to walk through as you browsed at the sea, the art exhibits, the stores and some great restaurants. The streets were a mix of commercial and residential areas. Plus there is a large university there so that added a buzz to the downtown core as well.
Halifax is not a large city – but it’s large enough.
There is plenty to see and plenty to do but it’s not overwhelming. It also has a laid back, friendly feel to it. That’s probably why there are cruise ships are now regularly visiting this port. We stayed for just two days but this could easily have been stretched to three.
I was so happy that I had the chance to re-experience this city and witness it’s evolution over time.
