60 Before 60 Project: #34 - Go to a Festival

I am very fortunate. The city where we live has festivals going on all the time. But going to them was something that we rarely did.
Years back, our kids were so busy with their extracurricular activities that a hockey rink, soccer field or grocery store seemed to be the only places we ever seemed to see beyond work.
But now that we are empty nesters, we have noticed that like many others in the same situation, we have shifted from being time constrained to now being time affluent and have more time to do things that we might find fun or interesting.
So heightened to be on the lookout for things to do, not only to fill my 60 Before 60 Project list but also that might be interesting to do, I happened to discover that a Mural Festival was happening one weekend.
The Mural Festival was established in 2012 and was created to support the city in celebrating urban art. There were multiple types of art genres being profiled but some of the most visible were the murals being painted on the outside of buildings.
As we walked down the street admiring the artwork, I couldn’t help but feel how much it livened up the city. Dull brick buildings were transformed into interesting works of art filled with both thought and colour.
Traffic was blocked off on the street so it was filled with people. Multiple stalls offered a variety of different products along with food being showcased from many different cultures. The sights and smells brought a type of excitement that made you feel like you were being part of something special.
As I meandered down the street, I thought what a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon. It certainly beats doing laundry.
My 60 Before 60 Lesson: When art is broken out from the traditional canvas and openly shared, it can help everyone appreciate life more.
Here's some pictures from the festival;
