My Battle with Belly Fat

Earlier this week while scrolling through my emails I noticed one from Dan Go outlining his lean body 90 day program.
I’ve been following Dan’s posts on LinkedIn for a couple of months. We both live in the same city and and I like what he has to share on weight loss and getting into shape for the long run.
It was early morning when I received and read Dan’s email (pre coffee) and I ended up saying what the heck to myself and hit the sign up button for his 90 day program.
Signing up for a program like this isn’t something I would normally do. I think I might have been partially motivated by a recent post I wrote about discovering “My Mortality Wake Up Call.”
Much of my current weight problem stems from writing three books and just getting myself through the pandemic. During this time, I managed to put on a lot of weight. That's what spending long hours sitting at your desk everyday can do to you. The weight just seems to creep up on you. Before before you know it, you are wearing size 2XL shirts along with sweat pants most of the time.
I knew I was on a bad trajectory health wise and thought I had a good plan to deal with it.
I had expected to lose a lot of weight training for Ironman Cozumel last year but it just didn’t happen. What I learned is that it is hard to drop weight while training because of all the nutrition you need to take in to help with recovery.
Another reason why I hit that button is because I’m doing the two day Ride To Conquer Cancer this weekend. I know I’m going to get frustrated because of all the extra weight I’m carrying. I can’t ride anywhere near my potential because of it. The sad part is I know that I’m the only one to blame.
And it’s not just about riding faster and looking better.
The build up of visceral fat (this is the fat that lies within our abdomen) can lead to all kinds of health problems including cancer - a subject which is always top of mind for me.
Now that I’ve taken the first step and have signed up to do something about it, I’m feeling better and even a little excited.
The before picture has been taken along with my current body measurements and starting weight.
My plan is to blog on my weight loss journey monthly so you can follow along and see what happens.
I can’t wait to look in the mirror and see my body start to change for the better. When you transform your body a positive mental transformation also takes place. Your attitude improves along with your blood pressure. You sleep better, have less stress in your life, have higher energy along with increased optimism.
What’s not to like about that?
The 90 day program starts this Monday and hopefully it will be a story with a good ending. Only time will tell.
