If Your Life Flashes Before Your Eyes Will It Be Something You Want to Watch?

For a long time there has been a theory that when we die our life will flash before our eyes.
What if this was true?
Quite by accident, some physicians discovered that this may in fact be the case.
As reported in Frontiers, an 87-year-old patient developed epilepsy. As the physicians tried to determine the cause, they used continuous electroencephalography (EEG) sensors on the patient's brain to find out how to treat them.
While doing this, unfortunately the patient had a heart attack and died. But during this period the doctors had the EEG recordings and for the first time ever were able to record the brain activity of a dying human brain.
Dr Ajmal Zemmar, a neurosurgeon at the University of Louisville, US, who organized the research in this case shared;
“Through generating oscillations involved in memory retrieval, the brain may be playing a last recall of important life events just before we die, similar to the ones reported in near-death experiences,”.
This is quite interesting.
There have been numerous recounts of people experiencing their life flashing before them in near death experiences but this is the first time that there may be scientific evidence that this actually happens when we die.
But the big question for all of us – will the life that flashes before us be one we would want to watch?
As I considered this, I recalled a TED video I watched a while back presented by Kathleen Taylor, a mental health counselor who worked with people in their final days of life.
In her presentation Kathleen shared what was discovered as the number one regret at the end of a person’s life. She shared the following thought that was voiced by many in their final days;
I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself and not the life that others expected of me.
That’s a powerful statement.
How many of us are doing what we do because others expect that of us rather than following a path we really want to take.
I would even hazard to take this thought one step further.
How many of us even know what a life true to ourselves even looks like?
Have we been so trapped in living up to the expectations of our society, our work and even our families that we have lost our true selves in the process?
Only each of us can answer that question for ourselves. But if in fact we do get to watch our life flash before us as we exit this world, it would be great to make sure it’s something we will enjoy watching.
